DAY 4: HUAYLLABAMBA / WARMIWAÑUSCA
/ PACAYMAYU (INKA TRAIL)

Today we’ll
get up at 0600 hours, after enjoying our breakfast we’ll
start the hardest part of the day, this one consists in a
narrow and steep climb (9 Kms.). Along this climb the
landscape changes to a very high and dry area with little
vegetation. When we reach the mountain pass Warmihuañusca
pass known as (the dead woman’s pass) we will observe
domesticated llamas and alpacas grazing in the ichu, one of
the few plants that grow at this altitude. We’ll also hike
through a forest area inhabited by different kina of animals
such as andean bear or bear with glasses and sparrows. Our
advice is that for this day you take candy, chocolates and
coca leaves so you’ll have the sugar level high to avoid
altitude sickness. Inmediately after the pass we’ll descend
towards the Pacaymayu valley (3,600 msnm), where we will
camp after a 6 hours excursión.

consists in a small oval structure that was created as a
watch tower. Then we will descend towards Yanacocha (black
lagoon) and we’ll penetrate the cloud forest to arrive to
Sayacmarca (3,624 msnm). This a beautiful complex build in a
semicircular construction with several levels, narrow
streets and liturgic fountains, patios and irrigation
channels. Continuing on an easy will reach the third pass of
Phuyupatamarca (3,700 msnm). Along our hike we’ll appreciate
the magnitude of the ancient art of the incas and observe
the stones that fill the ravine in perfect order. We’ll
continue our hike through an inca tunnel to reach the
mentioned pass. This is one of the most complete and well
preserved archaeological sites we’ll find in the highest
point of the mountain. Phuyupatamarca means “La Nube sobre
la Ciudad” “The cloud over the city” where we will
appreciate a sofisticated compound of water fountains with
solid foundations and impressive views of the Urubamba river
along which we’ll continue climbing towards Wiñayhuayna
